Doud's Market History

Doud's in Winter

Doud’s Market is the oldest family-operated grocery store in the United States of America! When you step foot into Doud’s Market, you are supporting local family business in such a special way - as the family business has been operated in 1884.

Next time you come in to shop with us, take a moment to notice the family pictures on the walls - pictures of James and Patrick Doud who founded Doud’s Market back in 1884. Notice the pictures of what Mackinac Island used to look like back in the day!

Things have changed over the years - Doud’s Market used to be known as Doud Bros. and then Doud’s Mercantile, but is now called Doud’s Market. The shop is now on the corner of Main Street, next to Marquette Park. Despite these changes, we believe that what has made us successful over the years is that Doud’s Market aims to serve the community of Mackinac Island with care, quality and convenience.

Did you know that we will deliver groceries to your home on the island? Head over to this spot on our website: and save that link for Summer 2020 when you are in need of groceries. Just be sure to read the directions of how the delivery process works!

Since we have been open for almost 140 years, we know that there are countless stories of Doud’s Market and what it has meant to your family when you visit Mackinac Island. Have a story you want to share with us? Leave a review on Trip Advisor, Google or Facebook! We’d love to hear your stories about how Doud’s Market helped you create special family memories!
